Well, it is a hidden and precious jewel of Dooars region, which has a breathtaking view of natural beauty filled with serenity. If you are a bird lover, this is the very place for you because it has about 250 species of birds among which the Rufous Necked Hornbill!
At the same time if you love trekking you have the deciduous forests and the Cinchona Plantation which manufactures medicines for malaria. Apart from the untouched forests there are various trekking trails, the most famous being the 6km trail through Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary onto the Raja Rani Hill. One will be able to spot animals and of course hear the sounds of birds as well. There is a lot of Flora and Fauna such as has not been seen elsewhere. The air is filled with the exotic and enthralling fragrances of varied flowers. At times the footprint of the Royal Bengal Tiger have also been spotted.
How to Reach
FROM SILIGURI : Being so near Siliguri; it is an area which is absolutely free of the madding crowd. Once you take the Sevoke Road you will reach Kalijhora after an hour’s drive. After this you will have to drive up a relatively narrow winding road uphill on the left. Now, 6th Mile Forest, Sittong 3 is about 13km.
To sum it up it’s a place not too far from an upcoming city like Siliguri and at the same time places like Darjeeling, Ghoom, Kurseong and Mirik are also easily approachable.
